and the volvo isnt spewing smoke-its a powdered fire retardant so the ignitor for the airbag doesnt set the car on fire. its very toxic, and is used mostly in older generation (aka cheaper) airbag systems.

the subarus fall apart because of one of the oldest and most effective safety features - body impact absorbtion. rather than building rigid boxy cars, automakers realized that building cars that absorb the impact , rather than transfering it to the occupants made cars much much safer. proof of this is the fact that the subaru forester is the only top pick that doesnt rely on curtian airbags, just torso, proving that it and all other subarus are structurally safe cars.

As a proud owner of a 2007 Audi A4 2.0T, it pains me to see a couple of Audis get nailed. It's such an incredible car to drive. Quick, sleek, solid, and stable. And apparently very safe, too.
